To Whom it May Concern
I’ll make this short and simple. I don't know much about this Hero of Light business, but that's the least of my concerns at the moment. I’m looking for some companions of mine that I’ve been separated from.
My name is Nel Zelpher. To those who recognize that name, I trust you’ll know where to meet me.

Personality:
Nel seems to be a highly collected, no-nonsense type of person and it shows for the first few hours you get to know her. She’s rather frank, right to the point, and incredibly loyal to her country. Almost brutally so, when she first shows up to give Fayt and Cliff an option that essentially boils down to “help her country or be left to die in Airyglyph’s dungeons.” Which one sucks less? Naturally, they pick the ones that don’t result in death or extensive hours of brutal “interrogation techniques”.
At first, she has a very soldier-like mentality towards handling things, and it seems like she won’t let anything get in her way towards her mission. When pursued by enemy soldiers she allows her subordinates to lead them off their trail, fully aware of the consequences that would befall them if they were to be captured. She thinks very highly of them, explaining they’re capable of fending for themselves and that they too are well prepared for situations of those sorts.
However, it isn’t long before it’s revealed that while Nel does have a caring side to her. When she learns of the fact her subordinates were indeed captured, she takes it upon herself to go off to rescue them on her own without involving Fayt or Cliff. The odds were clearly stacked against her, and she walked in knowing full well it was intended as a trap from the start. It can be seen as quite reckless on her part, and clearly deviating from her initial mission to escort them safely to Aquaria. Yet it goes to show that she cares deeply for them and in extension her friends as well, when she leaves them behind in an effort to not involve them in needless danger.
This is also shown when she helps out Ameena too. She’s quick to worry for her well being and after rescuing her, she freely covers all her medical expenses with little thought. The reckless, yet extremely loyal side of her is shown once more if she is the one to save Fayt and co. when they are at a stand-off with the Vendeeni forces, saving them but soon getting herself gravely injured in the process of doing so.
As someone with a position what basically amounts to as a spy, she's very sharp on the uptake and very skilled at gathering information. Being skilled with Runology as well, it goes without saying she's very well-read in that department as the study of the field requires a lot of education that isn't easily accessible for the rest of the Aquarian population. As stated in canon, it takes a lot of talent on top of trust for someone to begin their studies, especially when she only canonically holds the ranking of a trainee and still manages to be considered a top-class fighter among her fellow soldiers.
By extension, she’s also quick to catch onto things others may not notice. She’s quick to question both Cliff and Fayt’s initial story of being from Greeton, and therefore realize she’s not getting the entire truth to their story. Yet, she also realizes she has no choice but to trust them and take their word for it, as their help would mean great benefit to her country. This level of trust extends further along as her relationship with the team develops, particularly in how she handles the situation of being brought along with Fayt and co. into their ship, which needless to say is completely different than anything she's ever seen. Yet, she's ready to fight alongside them despite the oddities of said situation.
However, that isn't to say the revelation behind the truth of their universe doesn't weigh on her consciousness, and she will express concern in some easily missable dialogue about how information like this would affect the people of Aquaria. Namely, how well would they be able to accept that truth. Nel is quick to reassure Fayt of their existence and the fact they are living beings, but she is also well aware of the consequences that could follow if her people were to discover the truth.
All in all, Nel may seem frank and devoted to the job, but she’s far more compassionate than she appears to be. She won’t abandon her friends, and sometimes she’ll push herself to reckless extents because of that loyalty.
Third-Person Sample:
To find herself in a strange new world - far different and at the same time, oddly similar to her own - was not exactly what Nel had in mind after that battle. Though after all that’s happened, Nel hardly had anything left to be surprised over these days. Naturally, one of the first steps when finding oneself in an unfamiliar territory would be to gather information. Of course, it seems like that’s already been covered for her. How very convenient. With her eyes closed and arms crossed, she finds herself quietly listening to the “moogle” as he explains the situation.
“So your name is Aria, correct?”
“Yeah? What of it? … What? Got a problem with that, kupo?” Despite the feminine name, the Moogle’s tone was brusque enough. And surprisingly easy to rile up, seems like. Well, it hardly mattered.
“Not at all. It’s a very unique name,” Nel responds in a cool tone, nonchalantly shaking her head. The moogle frowns, crossing his arms before continuing.
“Well, that’s all I’ve got to offer, kupo. You’ve been summoned here as a Hero of Light and that's how it is. You got any other questions?”
It seemed a little odd, being suddenly summoned here after experiencing the near-annihilation of their universe at the hands of a madman calling himself a “god.” Perhaps this could be another trap, or an illusion of sort. Still… if she’s been summoned, then surely it couldn’t be much of a stretch to assume the rest of her friends had been brought here as well. Or at least, that’s what she had hoped.
“One more thing - I’m looking for some companions of mine. You wouldn’t happen to know anyone by the name of Fayt Leingod, would you?”
The moogle makes a small pondering sound at that question, glancing upwards. “Nope. Not that I know of, kupo. Why don’t you try askin’ around? We’ve got a bulletin for that kind of thing, kupo.”
... Well, then. That should certainly help things for Nel. With the help of Aria providing some parchment and ink, she soon gets to writing.
